New Goodies and a birthday!

Can you spy the new goodies in the photo above?  It's the border I've stamped on the Rose Red piece of cardstock.  I received my box of preordered fun from the Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue the other day and could not wait to play with new stuff! 

The first item on my list was the In Stitches jumbo wheel.  This is a really great wheel, perfect for attacking in my favourite way - cutting it up!

I find that i get so much more use out of my wheels when i do this (btw, my girls were completely horrified that I was peeling the rubber off  wheels and cutting it up :-) ) After I've cut the wheels to suit my preferences,  I pop the rubber onto a piece of EZ mount and trim around the rubber cut out.  Then I use these in the same way as our other clear mount stamp sets - super easy, and well worth it.

My page today features a photo of my middle daughter and friends on her 8th birthday.  Unfortunately I forgot to take a pic while all of her friends were over, but I was pretty happy with how this photo turned out.

Caught In The Act!

I came home from work to find Alby in my garden eating my flowers and just had to get a photo of him. The look on his face was just priceless because he knew he'd been caught where he shouldn't have been!!

 
 
The sheet of Newsprint DSP was perfect for this layout because it was all about gardening!! (not that I noticed it at the time I chose it!)

I wanted to create the feel of him being in a garden so I pulled out all my flower punches and dies to create the flowers on the page. I love using flowers on my layouts and it's great having such a fabulous range of punches and dies to be able to create my own that will coordinate perfectly with my pages!

The larger flowers have been made using the Flower Folds Bigz XL die (page 155 of the 2011 catty) that have been embossed with Finial Press embossing folder and then inked with Crumb Cake ink. The edges of the flowers have then been rolled using my pricking tool. I've stamped a flourish from the Baroque motifs in the top left corner and then layered some flowers together that were punched out with Boho Blossoms Extra Large punch (page 146). If you scrunch them up and then unscrunch (is that a word??) them, it gives them a little bit more texture. And finally, the little flower on my chipboard journalling spot has been made using the Itty Bitty punches from the Summer Mini catty. Actually, I have to confess, I wasn't initially going to put a little blossom there but I made a booboo and had to cover it up!!! Worked out alright in the end  though - LOL!!

My title has been made using 'On Board Alphabet Soup' for the larger word and 'Timeless Type Alphabet dies' for the rest of the title and the journalling spot is a chipboard shape from 'On Board Mix & Match'. One of the sheets in the DSP range had 'THE STORY' as a title, so I've cut out part of it and covered the chipboard shape. I could only fit 'STORY' onto the shape, so I've used the Vintage Type rubons on my photo instead to finish it off.

December Daily pages

Last month I showed you my first December 2010 layout, and this month I am continuing to share a little more.

These two pages are the simple but hold information that I would not remember years later without these pages. December 2 is all about the massive rainfall we had right on school pick up time (in Melbourne). My kids arrived home soaked and were dripping their way through the house. After seeing my kids so wet I got them out of their uniforms and into the shower straight away as they were freezing and didn't stop to take a photo. I recreated the photo shown on a day after school when it was far warmer by spraying them with the house. They loved it as it was out of the norm for me.

 

December 3 is all about the uniform shop having a % off sale and buying uniform for my soon to be Prep student. I scanned the receipt and the uniform price list and slipped them into the page. In years to come I will be able to pull the price list out to compare the changes in $ over the years.

Die cuts on pages

I love my scallop circle die and scallop square die( aswell as all the others ) but these two look great on a funky bright layout.  It is often hard to scrap boy pages, I often want to do pages with flowers and make them pretty but I know my boys wont thank me if they all have flowers on!  

On this page I have used the dies behind my photo using bright cardstock.  I cut a Celebrations Pattern Paper circle using my circle scissors to place in the middle of the scallop circle. These dies also make brilliant journal blocks for scrap pages or  they can be used to make mini albums.  They are just fabulous because they not only cut Cardstock but chipboard, felt and material. The possibilities are endless!

If you would like to scrap lift my page; I am sorry I have used some retired eyelets ( they just were perfect for the page) but they could be replaced with Designer Brads, Build a brad or the flower brads.

 

I hope you enjoy and are tempted by the dies!

Shabby Chic Presto!

Want to know what to do with the Specialty Presto Paper (Summer mini) that has the lines on it? Heres what Ive done up with mine.

Ive cut around the edge and brayered, sponged and wet rolled the edge. You can see the ink ran a bit but that was the look I was going for. I stamped with the flourish from Elements of Style in soft suede and added some pearls. The bottom edge wet and rolled up and tied it with hemp twine and I attached a trinket to the bow. The butterfly is embossed with the Lattice embossing folder.

The background is just for photographing but you could put this onto another sheet of paper. Mine, however, is going on a canvas that I am painting with a cherry cobbler colour (just need to find the colour).

The colours Ive used are Cherry cobbler, soft suede and early expresso.

Are you a perfectionist?

Someone once said 'there's a kind of beauty in imperfection'.  Do you sit and stare at your layouts and stress over crooked lines or a wonky stamp?   I know I do .... I spend more time staring and measuring than I do creating .... and I am working on changing that so that I can achieve more.

So here's my layout to prove I can do it!  Annoying imperfections a plenty!  Me and my scallop edge punch sometimes fall out .... but the imperfect punches add to the frilly-e-ness I think, the rough cut - or is that fussy cut - frame that I extended to highlight the word I liked, or the not quite so perfect journalling strips.

Actually when they are all put together it makes for a lovely layout I think - didn't take me long either which is the best bit isn't it.

I've used the NewsPrint DSP and teamed it up with Pear Pizzaz.  I am hastily trying to use up the lovely lace on everything I can before it disappears from our product range (lets hope there is some more very soon) ... NOTE:  if you want some, make sure you place your order with your demo before 31 March.

Why not have a go today at seeing just how imperfect you can be - you never know you may just find a new style you rather enjoy.

Barbie Girl

Hi!

Today's layout is about my daughter Ada.  In January she was lucky enough to be a second chance winner in a Barbie competition.  We had no idea what her prize would be and was expecting maybe a doll and a DVD.  When it arrived we got quite a surprise!

 

She got 5 dolls, a Glitteriser, a DVD and a double seater electric Jeep!  Lucky Ada!

To create the title I took a photo of the word Barbie on the side of the Jeep box.  I printed it at 5x7" and then fussy cut around the letters.

I decided to use the Platinum Shimmer Paint to highlight the main photograph.  I used a small paintbrush and painted quite roughly around the edge.

To create the little flower-like embellishments I simply punched a few different sized circles and then snipped 4 little wedges out of them and then finished them off with a brad through the middle.

DSP/Cardstock: Sweet and Sour Speciality DSP, Rose Red, Whisper White

Simple Scrapbooking with Stampin' Up!

I find sometimes photos don't need alot of emblishing to bring them out in a scrapbooking page.

The simple act of bringing out the colours can make your page. I used my son's top for the inspiration for this layout below....

Ingredients Used:

Stamps: Baby Step (Summer Mini), Calendar Alphabet & Numbers

Cardstock: Real Red, Night of Navy, Whisper White

Ink: Whisper white

Accessories: Satin Ribbon, Simple letters alphabet bigz die, Stampin' write marker in Night of Navy and Real Red, Silver brads, Signo white gel pen

 

These cute elephants are from our Summer Mini.  The stamp called Baby Steps $13.95AU.

 The stamp normally has a Congratulations under the two elephants but I used a Stampin' write marker to void it out by colouring directing onto the rubber itself.

This is the last month of the Summer mini, so be sure to be in contact with your demonstrator to get your hands on your stamping goodies.
