Double Zig Zag Mini Album

This mini album was supposed to be part of my presentation at Convention. But I didnt want to use shimmer paint on it as I did with all the other projects so it got sidelined. But..you get to see it here!!

These are simple to make but its best if you use smooth cardstock as the other zig zag gets folded the other way.

Here are the insides. I love these pics of my crazy daughter and her friend..too funny aye?

I cut the back to hold the both zig zags together.

 

If you havent made one of these before..have a go! Heres what you do..

Fold an A4 piece of cardstock into quarters. Cut it diagonally like this. I folded the short parts back to form a pocket. Easy aye? Of course I had to use my Tasteful trim die for all the accents and a bit of bling. You could make it into a rocket album for a boy too I guess? The only stamps Ive used is A little gem which Ive stamped on the tags in the pockets and on the other side is the journalling.

 

 

The tricky part is cutting the DSP to match. Ive used Celebrations DSP for this album.

Catching Up With (old) Friends

Well, maybe not so much of the old!!!

I hadn't seen my friend Sylvia since we left Perth over 15 years ago, so it was a wonderful surprise to see her pull into our driveway behind me one day last year! It was so good to see her after all that time! This is a page I scrapped of the two of us the night she was here:

I pulled out all my punches and dies to create the embellishments for this page - I had so much fun! I used the scallop punches and the Flower Folds Bigz Die to create the flowers (except for the white flowers - they are paper daisies).

The leaves were made using the Leaves #2 die that were then run through the  Square Lattice embossing folder (just love the folder!!). I didn't have quite the right size large scallop circle die to matt my large circles onto, so  I  used the scallop border punch to punch along one long edge of A4 cardstock, trimmed it down to about 1/2 inch in width, then cut in between each scallop. That allows you to bend the border around the circle.  Here is a little sample of how the scallop edge looks once you have cut in to  it:

Then all you do is apply sticky strip around the outside edge of your circle and adhere the scallop trim, turning as you go. Easy to do and allows you to matt pretty much any size circle!!

Bit of an oops

This page was actually my sample for the 'photo older than 10 years' challenge but unfortunately I had a sick family and my page sat unfinished on my desk! OOps really sorry for that everyone.

 

So anyway I finally got it stuck down and finished off.  The photo is of my husband and I, the day we moved into a flat together, in London.  Little did I know I would be married to him just 3 months later!!!

 

I love this photo dispite the red eye( note to self- go get a new red eye pen to erase the devil look!)  It needed a soft and romantic page and I am so pleased with the final look.  It will be put into a frame and hung in our bedroom.

The background paper is from the Botanical Gazette DSP but I wanted to add a little more detail by stamping on it.  I must have used all my favourite stamps on this and have to say I am enjoying colouring in at the moment with my stamp and write markers.

  The flowers were made by punching tissue paper with both sizes of scallop circle and scrunching them up up to look like pretty soft roses.  To make the pearl trails I stamped in versamark to give me a faint shape to follow using the flower stem stamp in the Cottage Garden set.

Our Princess

Hi!

Today's layout was one I created after playing around with a photograph in Photoshop.  I'm doing a course at my LSS and loving the effects I can get.  The actual photo was one of those random snaps taken on a family holiday.  Ada and I were lying in the grass together, she was a little grumpy (I can't remember why now!) and I just turned the camera at her and snuck in a quick photo.

Then, a couple of weeks after I took the photo I found a little slip of paper with the writing "I wish I was  princess" under Ada's pillow when I was making her bed.  It had come from a wishing jar she received for Christmas.  I kept the paper, knowing I wanted to use it on this layout.

I made a little vellum envelope for the paper, and adhered it under a medallion/journalling box that reads "Ada,  you'll always be our princess!"

I used a paper doily with the Smooch Silver Foil Spritz to create the masked section underneath the photo.  I spritzed enough in that section to get a decent masked outline of the doily, but then spritzed the rest of the page lightly to give a vintage look.  The flower at the top of the photo was made up of torn layered circles, some also spritzed.

Inspiration from song lyrics

 
I have always been so connected to music. I hear a song and it returns me to a time, a place or a feeling.

When each of our children were born...there was a song that connected me to that moment.. My first born son was 'With arms wide open' by Creed, Our second daughter was 'Sweet child of mine' by Guns N Roses and our last baby girl is 'Just the way you are' by Bruno Mars. I mention this, as that last song was the inspiration for this layout, using the lyrics as my journalling.

To create these flowers below... I used clear embossing powder for the first step. Then with the Stamp-ma-jig lined up the outline and stamped in with black Stazon ink. Just so it would pop a little more I used the Signo White Gel pen to highlight some of the creases.
