Scrapping With Scraps

The great thing about scrapbooking is that it doesn't have to cost you a lot of money to record your memories. Sometimes all you need are a few scraps of left over paper and card. If you're anything like me, you will have a mountain of leftover bits accumulating in your stash! So that is what I have done to create this  layout of Candace - I've used up some of my leftovers:

Except for the cardstock background and the top note die-cut (made using the top note die and watercolour cardstock), the rest of the layout has been completed using leftover scraps of patterned paper and cardstock.  The circles on the die-cut label were cut out using the circle scissor, the letters were all leftovers (which is why some are uppercase and some are lowercase!) and the little scraps of designer paper were leftover bits after making a card.

Because I've used papers from two different packs (the photo mat is from the Regals Designer Series pack and the smaller pieces are from the yummy Autumn Spice Specialty DSP), I've tied them in together with coloured stitching. I'm quite happy with the finished result - what do you think??? I hope this inpsires you to raid your leftover stash to see what you can create.

Remembering to Scrap the Memories

I wished I had asked my Grandmother what her favourite meal was, or indeed my Grandfather or my Dad but sadly I did not.  I will be asking my Mum though .... and my Mother-in-Law and anyone else I can find who will answer my questions!

All too soon our family history is lost isn't it, and I don't necessarily mean the who married who, how many kids they had and where they lived .... but the every day stuff that makes us who we are.   I've never taken a photo of something as simple as my lunch before .... but as I was making this meal and remembering this and that, it suddenly occurred to me that this kind of mundane 'stuff' is what families are made of.  I wish I could read all about my family's 'stuff'.  So as I made my lunch I wrote what it means to me .... how this is my all time favourite food and why it evokes such memories.

Yes it is a simple meal of mackerel on toast.  The journalling says it all really (including a terrible spelling mistake that somehow I will fix up one day).  I just wanted to record my thoughts for my children and their children.

I am embarrassed to say this is the first time I have cracked open the packet of Autumn Spice Designer Series Paper - wow is all I am going to say.  I need to find the time to use the rest up before it expires in July.  I also opened the Cajun Craze ink pad which I received as a freebie from Stampin' Up! last year - more wow!

I hope this page makes you think about something that is so 'everyday' that you don't think to scrap it.  I am going to make sure I scrap more of these memories for future generations of the Sadlers.  They will probably look back and say .... gee Granny Sadler was weird! LOL

Converting a Layout to a Larger Size

Hi!

Today I have a layout for you that I designed for a workshop I ran recently.  The hostess and guests were mostly all scrappers and were keen to see how Stampin' Up!'s products could be used in their layouts.

All participants got to complete a 6 inch layout in either girl (above) colours or boy colours.  I used the Celebrations DSP for the boy layouts.   To complete the layout above the guests stamped the butterfly from Dreams De Jour repeatedly down the right hand side.  They also used the frame stamp from Good Friend as a small journalling box.

The scallop square die cut is the perfect size to matt a 4 inch square photo.  In this layout I cut the photo slightly smaller and matted it on a 4 inch square of Whisper White before adhering it to the scallop square.

As most of the ladies usually scrap 12 inch layouts I also prepared a layout ready to slot the 6 inch layout into, just to show them how they could convert their 6 inch layout to 12 inches.

I simply applied the smaller layout to the larger cardstock and added a flutter of butterflies across the page.  I adhered them from large to small as I went from top to bottom to give the impression of them being in flight.  I only adhered the body section so this wings would sit up a little, and then added rhinestones to the body section.

SAM Challenge # 23 winner
