I just had to scrapbook my sons (aka Justin Beiber look alike) ball photos recently ...and woohoo his girlfriend was on there so I could put FLOWERS on his LO..too funny! You know teenage boys ..camera shy and doesnt want anything fancy but as its his last year at High School we made him go to his school ball. I told him I was disowning him if he didnt have photos on the night..so he took heed and was the dutiful son lol

Some new sneek peeks here of the lace ribbon punch and the Creative Elements Stamp set.  The journalling is still to be done ..on the ribbon (petal cone die) and on  the Notably ornate scroll.

Sorry been AWOL lately as been busy with calving.

Making Meaningful Albums

This is a little concertina album I made in memory of my brother who passed away unexpectedly 4 years ago. Gosh, I can't believe how much time has gone by - it only seems like yesterday!!

I made a similar one and gave to him for his 40th birthday and he loved it. So this is one I have made to keep myself:

I've used Confetti Cream cardstock on the front, but first I stamped it with the medallion stamp in Cherry Cobbler from the 'Artistic Etchings' stamp set. I then ran it through the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder and swiped across the top with Early Espresso Ink. I've also used my sprtizing tool to spritz Early Espresso across the front The butterfly has been made using the Beautiful Butterfly die to cut out chipboard covered with DSP. It has also been run through the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder to give it a bit of texture.

(still have to do the journalling yet!!) Because the photos were a bit rude, I've photo-shopped some butterflies over top to hide the rudey bits!

I've put a hidden journalling tag underneath the photo on the right, which was taken the year before he passed away. There is another flip-out on this side of the album as well but in this case, it flips out to the right:

The album is really easy to make and uses only 1 sheet of 12x12 inch cardstock cut in half to make the concertina effect inside. The cover has been made using the backing sheets from the DSP packs that have been covered with patterned paper. I have used the 'Love Letter' range to make this album.

The good thing about these  albums too is that you don't need a lot in the way of embellishments. I have just used my punches and dies to create the journalling tags, flowers and butterflies, and added a few paper daisies, twine & vintage brads.

My Distressing Kit got a bit of a workout on this album too! I used the sanding block to distress the edges of all my photos before adhering them into the album, and I used the 'Tea Stain' inkpad to ink all the edges of the patterned paper and cardstock.

Double layout, it's been a long time...

A really long time since I
did a double page.  I have to say I am not a double layout girl but birthdays always have so many great shots that you want to keep recorded!  I made my 1st page keeping in mind that it would have another side but still keeping it as a layout in its own right.  I cut a strip of paper and then cut off a part of it and put it aside for when I made the second part. I made sure that this paper strip went along the edge that would match page 2.  To see the 1st side of my layout please see the previous post and click my name to see it on my blog.

I then went on to do the second page. I found a retired piece of DSP that I love and went well withthe other page( another great aspect of SU as all the colours work so well together). I took the piece that was cut out of the middle of the Play Date DSP  and made this my starting point; oh and of course the little strip of paper I had put aside from earlier.  I wanted to splatter and spritz again so using the method of a very wet aqua brush dipped in ink and flicking onto the page I splatted pacific point. Some Silver Foil Smooch was added as well as some spritzing.  Of course I couldnt resist adding a banner and yes you may have spotted that i am giving you a sneak of some new product! No I didnt cut out those flags ( does that give you a clue????) and yes those flags do have new patterns on them!

So this page looks great on its own or beside its other half; 2 layouts or 1 double who knows how it will end up in the album!

Scrapbook Out Of Order

There's a great article in this month's Creating Keepsakes about scrapbooking non-sequentially to capture the memories you cherish the most.  I found this article so interesting and so right for this page that I thought I'd share it with you.

I was trying to scrap the little things in life, the things that in years to come the children would look and read and know more about the person I am or relive a memory from their childhood.  

The story goes that I pruned the verandah roses for winter, they grew again immediately and six weeks later they were in flower again.  Now some may think that isn't strange but where I grew up, when you prune your roses they stay pruned until spring arrives .... and then they start to grow.  I made everyone come and look at my dozen red roses - yes no-one was as excited as I was but they came and looked anyway.

So far so good - I loved this photo when it was printed.  Now according to the article if you have a photo you love, a moment you don't want to forget, something that tugs at your heart strings, etc etc you need to scrap it immedately.  I wish I had because I know this page would have been so very different - I would have used the words that conveyed the thoughts of the moment.

 There's something else that helps me to scrapbook - and that's finishing a page in one sitting .... I seem to get 'into the groove' of a page - again this page was almost complete and I stopped - when I returned to it later I had lost the 'feel' or 'thread' of what it was I was trying to create.

So whilst it isn't my favourite page - and I'll add more journalling to capture the thoughts and feelings behind the photo, I think it will be a turning point in my scrapbooking journey.

Christmas Calendars

Hi!

Are you like me - around this time of year and starting to think about the little gifts you'd like to give at Christmas?  I generally only buy gifts for the children in my family and circle of friends, but I do like to make gifts for other special adults or families.  This year I started thinking about calendars and how they'd be a perfect gift, so I decided to design one.

 

I used a few layers of the backing sheets that come with DSP packs as a basis for the covers.  A few layers gives the thickness and stability you need for it to stand up like this.  I then covered them with DSP and added a piece of ribbon to jazz it up a little.

 

For the inside pages I used a calendar template I found on SplitCoast Stampers.  No need to reinvent the wheel!  I simply trimmed each page to size, stamped a suitable image and it's done!  I left a space at the top of each page to add a photo.  You'd only fit a passport sized photo on these pages, or you could just stamp all across the top section if you'd rather.

 

I stamped an image I felt was suitable for the month on each page.  September is Spring, so I stamped a lovely vase of flowers.  December has a Christmas ornament, February a love heart... I'm sure you get the picture!
