Christmas Calendars

Hi!

Are you like me - around this time of year and starting to think about the little gifts you'd like to give at Christmas?  I generally only buy gifts for the children in my family and circle of friends, but I do like to make gifts for other special adults or families.  This year I started thinking about calendars and how they'd be a perfect gift, so I decided to design one.

 

I used a few layers of the backing sheets that come with DSP packs as a basis for the covers.  A few layers gives the thickness and stability you need for it to stand up like this.  I then covered them with DSP and added a piece of ribbon to jazz it up a little.

 

For the inside pages I used a calendar template I found on SplitCoast Stampers.  No need to reinvent the wheel!  I simply trimmed each page to size, stamped a suitable image and it's done!  I left a space at the top of each page to add a photo.  You'd only fit a passport sized photo on these pages, or you could just stamp all across the top section if you'd rather.

 

I stamped an image I felt was suitable for the month on each page.  September is Spring, so I stamped a lovely vase of flowers.  December has a Christmas ornament, February a love heart... I'm sure you get the picture!

Super (Mini) Size Me!

I have been wanting an excuse to use the gorgeous Nursery Suite Specialty Designer papers (page 124 of the 2011 Idea Book & Catalogue) and finally I have the chance!!  I've used the papers to create a mini baby album for my niece. These mini albums are so cute and are a great idea to give away as a present (or to keep for yourself!!):

 

I've used the 'Nursery Suite' self adhesive die cuts (page 128) and the 'Onboard Mix & Match' chipboard (page 135) to embellish my mini album. I love how they all coordinate perfectly together to create a project. The die-cuts fit perfectly on the chipboard accents and they also coordinate perfectly with the patterned paper. There is even a stamp set called 'So Cute' (page 57) that coordinates with the papers & die cuts too. The embellishment o n the front of my album has been created by layering three differnet die-cut stickers together and then layering onto a coordinating chipboard shape.

Each page of the mini album has a side for journalling and a tag to place your photos. The sentiment on this page has been coloured using markers so that you can get a vareity of colours on your stamp.

The stamp sets I have used are 'Occasional Quotes' which is a Level 3 hostess set, 'Word Play' (page 103) and 'Notes and Details', which is in the Summer Mini catalogue.  The 'Notes and Details' stamp set is a great set for creating journalling tags to use on your layouts and 'Word Play' has a lot of different sentiments that can be used on layouts and cards alike.

I hope this inspires you to create your own mini album using these gorgeous papers and die cuts!

No photo page

A few years ago I read about a bunch of scrapbookers documenting the month of December in the form of a mini album and I loved the idea. I had a few false starts before getting my December fully documented but 2010 was my 2nd year at taking photos for the month of December and journaling ever day.

On the first of December 2010 I certainly didn't have a good start to my album. I was very sick and forgot to take a photo for the day. Not being deterred by not having a photo I made do with what I had... a repeat script for antibiotics. Not the "look" I was after for my first page but it certainly did document how I was feeling and what I did that day (visit my local doctors clinic.)

 

It goes to show, you don't always need photos to tell a story.

Girls and their dads

 

Whenever dad's around, you are sure to find his little girl. They adore  each other...he always asks me how I could ever get angry at her and make her cry?! Definitely got him wrapped around he little finger. So I thought it would be a good idea to make a layout with the nicknames he gives her, as they always change with time and I didn't want to forget them any time soon.

The new colour Melon Mambo was perfect for these photos and the Designer Series Paper helped really bring it all together.

Suitcase mini album

Hello all and Im really pleased to be part of the StampAmemory Design Team. Thanks girls for inviting me to belong. Im Delys Cram and Im a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator from Whakatane, New Zealand.

Ive been papercrafting for about 9 years and up until 2 1/2 years ago was a scrapbooker only until I got introduced to Stampin' Up! I now call myself a papercrafter as I love all forms of papercraft and like to have a go at anything and everything.  I am currently on two other Design Teams both in Oz and in the US.

I have to say that I love to make mini albums ..especially from scratch. It is so much cheaper for a start and you can personalise it how you want. This suitcase album was inspired by a box I bought recently at a shop and also by the beautiful papers of Love Letter and Newsprint. The outside box was adapted from the Drawer box splitcoast tutorial

So this is what Ive taught my scrapbooking classes this month..It was a full on class using the distressing kit and the (I so love it) shimmer paint! We had so much fun that instead of a 2 hour class it ended but being 3 hours long..time flies when you are having fun!
Now I hate that I havent put photos in this mini album but thats because Ive still got to take the photos ..Its for a girls weekend in Brisbane next month. For a change I am ready to just add the photos and Im all done.

Have you seen the new antique brads ..they are just gorgeous!Ive already gone through one container worth and also half a bottle of champagne shimmer paint. (grin)

Righto as its School Holidays the teens are champing at the bit to get on the computer.

Something about Me

Those of you who know me well, will know that I am definitely NOT one to scrapbook pictures of myself......something about loving being behind the camera and not in front of it! Anyway, I'm hopping out of my comfort zone today with a layout that has a picture of me in it! My hubby took this photo and it's one of very few of me that I don't loath LOL! I have made this layout a little different than the usual square style, by creating an owl shape out of a selection of Designer Series Papers, Card Stock, Punches and embellishments and then hanging it from some bright ribbons.

 
I must apologize for the poor quality of the photo. I took it with

daylight fading fast as I don't like flash pictures on my camera!

Gratitude Journal and Challenge Winner

Gratitude Journals

When I was pregnant with my first child a friend gave me a gorgeous small notebook to use for a gratitude journal.  She wrote about the purpose of the journal inside the front cover, "Each day or night before you turn in write something that you were grateful for that day.  Some days you'll have heaps, other days it may be hard - but as you sit to write you'll be surprised at all the good things there were in that day."  I've written in it on and off over the last 7 years.  It is nice to flick through and be reminded of all the little and big things I've had to be grateful for.  I laughed at how many of the early entries (in the days of a newborn in the house) revolved around sleep.  "Jan 3rd 2003, I am grateful Hannah has gone straight to sleep with no pacing and I can go to bed!" 

I read something about gratitude journals recently and had the idea to keep one as a family.  Ever have weeks when whinging seems to be the most frequently heard thing in the house?  I thought perhaps sitting down after dinner each night and taking a couple of minutes to record something we each are thankful for that day would help encourage us to focus on the positives of the day.

I've used a Stampin' Up! On Board Art Journal.  You can find them on page 147 of our catalogue.  I've kept the cover very simple because ..... well, just because its a busy week really - I'm sure you can all relate.  Don't you find sometimes if you wait for 'when I have more time' you find it never comes. Sometimes just giving an idea a go with the little bit of time you find in the day (or night!) is the way to go I find. And luckily I like simple!  I covered it with one of my favourite Designer Series Patterned Papers: Bella Bleu, with some help from the Spiral Punch.  The Spiral Punch is punch number 9 on page 152.

The chipboard letters are from On Board Loads Of Letters (pg 146) and I've simply sponged them with Sahara Sand Ink for some extra definition.  They're glued on with some Tombow Multipurpose Adhesive (pg 154.)  I popped a small half pearl from the Pretties Kit (pg 149) onto each one using Glue Dots.  

Some quick knots of Kraft Taffeta Ribbon (pg 151) to finish off.

I plan to keep it in the loungeroom and write in it regularly with John and the kids.  I think it'll be really nice to read back on in future years.  A book I was reading recently (The Time Paradox, Philip Zimbardo) mentioned a study that had been done that involved gratitude.  The group that had to write down 5 things they were grateful for each week for 9 weeks rated their lives more favourably, reported fewer physical illnesses and had more positive emotion overall than the other 2 groups in the study.  (One of the other groups had to write down 5 hassles weekly and the last group had to write things that had had an impact on their lives that week.)  I know whenever I remember to write in mine regularly I find I feel much better.   So perhaps there'll be other benefits to keeping the family journal.  It was a nice way to spend a few minutes today anyway.

Ta Da! Photo Pull Sleeve

Hello Everyone,

Di here. Today I have something a little different to show you. It is a 'Photo Pull Sleeve' and it is another way to scrapbook without actually using the traditional square layouts that we all know and love. This is a cute way to hide a photo and then have the viewer pull it out for a WOW moment. Choosing a catchy heading on the front, that really ties in with the photo inside, creates maximum impact. The photo I have used in this project does have both Tim & Liam in it but I think you'll agree with me that it is my gorgeous Liam who steals the show!

Baby book mini album

Hi all, one of my close friends recently announced she was pregnant. She is to be a first time mum and it got me to thinking, if she is anything like I was when I was pregnant she is bound to have preggo brain. Not to mention all the 'questions' you have and many new items you have to buy in preparation for the baby. This is how my baby book mini album came about.

The front page features weaved paper inside the baby sweet treat cup rattle as a delicate touch (just like newborns!)

 
Inside the 'book' is 4 sections to store information; appointment cards, questions to ask, receipts and ultrasound pictures.
